October - Month of the Girl

At the University of Toronto we are celebrating the Month of the Girl! In celebration all our event proceeds will be donated to Girl Up, United Nations Foundation #GIRLUP #GIRLHERO About Girl Up: “Girls are powerful. When they’re educated, healthy, and safe, they transform their communities. When girls stand up for girls in need, they empower each other and transform our world. As the United Nations Foundation’s adolescent girl campaign, Girl Up engages girls to take action. Led by a community of nearly half a million passionate advocates raising awareness and funds, our efforts help the hardest to reach girls living in places where it is hardest to be a girl.” https://girlup.org

In November 2016, one student at the University of Toronto envisioned a club that would not only address the inequities faced by women and girls today but would also be able to discuss these issues from a global perspective.

Julia Mogus, age 19, decided that she wanted to actually create a club that would address both issues. On January 22nd, 2017, UN Women at the University of Toronto was born.
